Children’s Sunday School

Children in age three through seventh grade gather at 9:30 a.m. in the Common Room of the Education Building for breakfast provided by parents.  Following breakfast, children attend to individual Sunday School classes based on their age.  The curriculum use for Sunday School is Living the Good News, a lectionary based program that emphasizes the heritage of the Episcopal Church, the Sacraments, and the Book of Common Prayer. The curriculum also emphasizes the liturgical seasons of the year. It is based on scripture, tradition, and reason. A goal of Living the Good News is discovering God in the liturgy and symbols of the church as well as in the people of God.

Children’s Chapel

Children age three and above are encouraged to attend Children's Chapel.  Each Sunday, during the 10:30 service, children are led out of the Church to the Children’s Chapel located in the Education Building.  This interactive, formational service includes the reading or telling of a story, prayers of the people and opportunities for children to ask questions and share their thoughts.  The conclusion of Chapel coincides with the announcements in the church service; the children process into the church to join their families for the Holy Eucharist.

Music

Music opportunities for children abound at Mediator.  These groups participate in worship services several times a year and practice as needed.

The Shakers is a hand bell choir for children age five and under.  Because the bells are played by matching colors, no musical experience is necessary.  Any child, no matter how young, is welcome to be a part of this choir.  This is an excellent way to introduce children to music, build confidence, and teach children the joy of sharing their talents with others.

The Mediator Children’s Choir is for children age three and above who like to sing.  This is an energetic choir that sings several times a year during the Sunday worship service.
